Use Focus 2 Apply, a career assessment tool customized specifically for our majors and programs, to explore major opportunities and career paths based on their unique interests, skills, values and goals. The assessment takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, offering a straightforward and effective way to gain clarity on your options.
First-Year Programs and Exploratory Studies
Not sure exactly where your interests will take you? That’s okay. At NC State, you have options that give you the flexibility to explore while making progress toward your degree.
First-Year Programs
Some NC State colleges offer first-year programs designed to help you build a strong academic foundation before moving into a specific major. You’ll take courses that introduce you to your field, explore different academic paths and connect with resources to help you determine which major is the right fit.
These programs give you time to discover your strengths and interests while still moving forward with your NC State education.
Exploratory Studies
Interested in several subjects or still deciding what you want to study? Exploratory Studies gives you the opportunity to explore NC State’s academic options before choosing a major.
As an Exploratory Studies student, you’ll work with academic advisors who can help you identify your interests, strengths and goals. Through coursework, advising and opportunities to learn more about different fields, you’ll build a path toward a major that fits where you want to go.
You don’t need to have your entire future figured out before you get here. Exploratory Studies gives you the support and flexibility to find your direction at NC State.
